“I am a masters student in the Department of Horticulture at Oregon State University. My thesis project is focused on getting our campus accredited as an arboretum through the ArbNet Accreditation Program at Morton Arboretum. The goal of this project is to create a public interface for students, faculty, and the public to walk around campus and be able to identify woody plants in our campus living collection. In the near future there will be a publicly accessible map, and in time an app, people will use for a tree and shrub tour around campus. This fall you will start seeing trees labeled with their name and a QR code that will link to the OSU Landscape Plants webpage of that taxon for additional information and pictures. This will be an ongoing project that will better our campus and enhance research and extension opportunities in the future.”
