Molly Arnold & Gus
“Gus is six and a half and came from Eastern Oregon and when I was trying to figure out which dog I was going to get, and I had just moved here for grad school, I said to myself, ‘Okay, I know I want to get a puppy because I’ll drop out of grad school if I get an elderly dog and it dies in the middle of school or something..’ [pause] So, I was asking these folks, ‘You know, I’ve never had a dog before. Which one do you think would be the best fit from this litter?’ They said, ‘Oh, definitely the runt! He just doesn’t have that drive. He’s just like, profoundly lazy.’ People are always like commenting, being like, ‘Oh, he’s beautiful. Should I get a herding dog?’ and I’m like, ‘Don’t expect this. Like, he’s really lazy.’ Gus comes downtown with me all the time because my father-in-law owns a jewelry store on 2nd Street. He gets to go in and be a shop dog and meet all the folks that come in.”
